Ontada Mobile EHR
Ontada (a McKesson company) had a problem: our legacy Electronic Health Record (EHR) was disliked by doctors. It was difficult to use, unreliable, and required a desktop computer. We needed to show our users (and McKesson) that we could create something great, to give them hope for our future. David Schultz along with the General Manager & VP of Engineering, created a skunkworks team to build an EHR mobile app using Apple’s Swift UI development platform (with the direct involvement of Apple). Our doctors were thrilled, and even used it to create new use cases during the Covid lockdown (such as parking lot examinations).
David led his team to expand the vision for this EHR to iPad & desktop scenarios.

Oncology EHRs support possibly the most complex workflow and data of any software tool. Many doctors assume it’s impossible to create a usable EHR as almost all of them receive terrible reviews, yet they were thrilled with our new design. A quote from an industry expert: “I never bothered to think about the design of EHR software because the data is just too complex, but you and your team figured it out - I’m amazed!”
